Delivery, Installation and Service: What Happens After You Order

The full process from order to running cabinet — freight, delivery day, commissioning, warranty and parts.
By the Chill Pro Refrigeration team · Updated August 2026

After you order commercial refrigeration in Australia, the cabinet is dispatched by freight to your address, delivered to the shop, positioned in place, left to settle, then switched on and brought down to temperature before you load stock. Chill Pro dispatches from Brisbane and Sydney with freight Australia-wide, and every cabinet is covered by a 2-year parts and labour warranty.
Most buying guides stop at the point of sale. This one starts there. It's written for supermarket, butcher and deli owners who want to know exactly what happens between paying the invoice and serving customers out of the new cabinet — and what to sort out beforehand so delivery day goes smoothly.

What happens after you place your order
The process is the same whether you're buying one cabinet or fitting out a whole shop.
Order confirmed and sizing checked. Before anything is dispatched we confirm the model, dimensions and power requirement against your floor plan. This is the last easy moment to catch a cabinet that won't fit a wall or a doorway.
Dispatch and freight booking. Your cabinets are booked onto a freight run from Brisbane or Sydney. You get a lead time at this point, not a guess — remote and regional deliveries take longer than metro.
Delivery to your address. The cabinet arrives crated or wrapped on a pallet. Someone needs to be on site to receive it and check it before the driver leaves.
Positioning and settling. The cabinet is moved into its final position and left standing for the recommended settling period before power is applied.
Commissioning. Switch on, run empty, and let it pull down to its operating temperature before loading stock. Our commercial display fridges and display freezers all arrive ready to run.

How does commercial refrigeration delivery work in Australia?
Commercial refrigeration is freighted, not couriered. Cabinets are heavy, tall and fragile in specific ways, so they travel on pallets with dedicated refrigeration-aware freight rather than general parcel networks.
Chill Pro dispatches from Brisbane and Sydney and freights Australia-wide, including regional and remote locations — stores in Woorabinda, Dalby, Kingaroy and Hughenden all run cabinets that were delivered this way. Metro Brisbane and Sydney deliveries are the quickest; regional Queensland and New South Wales take longer, and remote deliveries longer again depending on the freight run. We cover this in detail in our guide to buying in regional and remote Australia.
Ask for the delivered price rather than the ex-warehouse price when you compare suppliers. Freight on a 2.5m multideck is not a rounding error, and a quote that excludes it isn't comparable to one that includes it. Our guide on where to buy commercial refrigeration covers how to compare suppliers properly.

Delivery day: access, positioning and getting the cabinet inside
Nearly every delivery-day problem is an access problem, and nearly all of them are avoidable at quote stage. Before the truck is booked, check:
Truck access — can a semi or rigid truck reach your loading point, or does the delivery need a smaller vehicle?
Doorway and passage widths — measure the narrowest point on the path from the kerb to the cabinet's final position, not just the front door.
Floor surface — can the cabinet be wheeled or trolleyed in, or does it need to be carried over a step or lip?
People on site — a 2.5m multideck case is not a one-person job. Have help arranged for the time slot.
Where the old unit goes — if a failing cabinet is being replaced, decide before delivery day whether it's being removed, and by whom.
Tell your supplier about anything unusual — a first-floor shop, a shared loading dock, a narrow arcade, restricted delivery hours in a shopping centre. Sensitive or difficult freight can be planned for. It just can't be improvised on the day.

Do I need an electrician or a refrigeration technician to install it?
It depends on the type of equipment.
Self-contained display cabinets. Most display fridges, freezers and multidecks are self-contained plug-in units. They don't need refrigeration pipework on site, so in most cases you're plugging into a suitable existing outlet. Check the power requirement on the spec sheet for your model before delivery, and have an electrician confirm the circuit is adequate if you're adding several cabinets to one area.
Cool rooms and remote systems. These are a different job. A cool room needs a qualified refrigeration technician for assembly and commissioning, and an electrician for the power supply. Plan the trades in before the panels arrive.
Deli serve-over counters. Self-contained, but worth positioning carefully first time. Our deli serve-over displays are heavy, and once a counter run is joined and levelled you don't want to move it.
If you're unsure which category your equipment falls into, ask before you order. It changes the timeline more than any other single factor.

Commissioning: getting a new cabinet to temperature
Don't load stock into a cabinet the moment it's plugged in.
Let it stand. After transport, a cabinet should stand upright in its final position before power is applied so the compressor oil settles. The manual for your model gives the exact period — allow several hours as a rule of thumb, and longer if it travelled on its side.
Run it empty. Switch on and let it pull down to its set temperature with the doors shut and nothing inside. A display fridge typically holds 0–4°C and a display freezer around −18°C.
Check the temperature before you trust it. Confirm it's holding at temperature over a few hours before loading stock. This one step prevents the single most expensive commissioning mistake — a full load of meat in a cabinet that hasn't stabilised.
Then load it properly. Don't overfill above the load line, keep air vents clear, and give the cabinet a chance to recover after a big restock. Loading a cabinet well is also how you keep products fresher for longer.

Warranty, parts and service after installation
Chill Pro supplies a 2-year parts and labour warranty on our commercial refrigeration. If something goes wrong inside that period, call or email us with the shop name and the cabinet — we arrange the part and the labour to fit it.
For a warranty claim, it helps to have on hand: what the cabinet is doing (or not doing), what temperature it's holding, when it started, and a photo or short video of the display or controller. Most faults are diagnosed faster from that than from a description alone.
Outside warranty, the parts that wear are predictable — door gaskets, fan motors, controllers, LED strips. We hold and supply parts for the cabinets we sell, which is the practical difference between buying from a specialist and buying from a marketplace listing. A cabinet you can't get a gasket for isn't cheap, whatever it cost. Finance is available too: Chill Pro Trusted Finance Partners offer competitive rates in the market — ask us about it, and see our equipment finance options.
Routine servicing is straightforward and mostly falls to your staff: keep condenser coils clean and unobstructed, check door gaskets seal, don't block air vents, and clear drains. Ten minutes a month prevents most call-outs.

Replacing old equipment without closing the shop
Most of our work is replacement rather than new fit-outs, and shops rarely have the luxury of shutting for a week. Our projects page shows what finished installs look like.
The usual approach is to stage it. New cabinets are delivered and positioned, the old unit is emptied and pulled out, the new one goes in and is commissioned overnight or during a quiet period, and stock is transferred once it's holding temperature. On a multi-cabinet run, sections are done in stages so the shop keeps trading.
Martoo Meats in Kingaroy replaced failing sliding-door display cabinets with hinged-door multidecks this way, then came back later for the deli fit-out. Southside Quality Meats in Dalby replaced their old gear with three 2.5m multidecks jointed into one continuous run. Neither shop stopped trading to do it.
Talk to us at quote stage about the changeover sequence. It costs nothing to plan and it's the difference between a smooth week and a bad one.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does commercial refrigeration delivery and installation work in Australia?

Cabinets are freighted on pallets to your address, positioned in their final spot, left to stand so the compressor oil settles, then switched on and run empty until they reach operating temperature before stock is loaded. Chill Pro dispatches from Brisbane and Sydney with freight Australia-wide, including regional and remote locations.
Do I need an electrician or refrigeration technician to install a display fridge?
Most display fridges, freezers and multidecks are self-contained plug-in units and don't require refrigeration pipework on site — check the power requirement on the spec sheet and have an electrician confirm the circuit if you're adding several cabinets. Cool rooms are different and need a qualified refrigeration technician plus an electrician.
How long should a new commercial fridge stand before you turn it on?
It should stand upright in its final position for the period given in the model's manual — several hours as a general rule, and longer if it was transported on its side. This lets the compressor oil settle and prevents damage on start-up.
What does the Chill Pro warranty cover?
Chill Pro supplies a 2-year parts and labour warranty. To make a claim, contact us with the shop name, the cabinet, what it's doing, the temperature it's holding and a photo of the controller — that's usually enough to diagnose the fault and send the right part.
Can you deliver and install in regional or remote Australia?
Yes. Chill Pro freights Australia-wide from Brisbane and Sydney, including regional Queensland, regional New South Wales and remote locations. Confirm lead time, truck access and whether the old cabinet is being removed at quote stage, because those are what determine the delivery-day plan.
